Stolen Girlfriends Club

ooooor stolen idea. For my uni course this semester we have to come up with an idea for a fashion event using a designer of our choice. For my designer I choose Ozwald Boateng; one of my favourite menswear tailors. One of my initial ideas which I eventually sacked off was having the catwalk as a supermarket aisle. I assumed it would be too tricky, and models walking through Morrisons in bespoke suits may not be the most glamourous thing ever...

And now I come across the Stolen Girlfriends Club's catwalk.

It was done in a very sort of 'flash mob' way, with the public in the New Zealand food mall shopping as normal, buying their bananas. There were no guests or even invites, and it was all done as a stunt and streamed on-line. I looooove this! It looks just so mental and out of place, but this is what makes it so brilliant.

The collection is called 'untitled' and the peices look really simple yet wearable.

Love this dress:

Perfect for spring don't you think?

kiiinda wishing I'd done this idea now...

But at least it's been done!

and on the seventh day...

Krispy Kremes were created.

My lovely boyfriend and I detoured to Selfridges in Birmingham on our way home and instead of just being normal and buying one each..we ended up with 24. Of course.

Glamour Magazine is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and they have teamed up with Krispy Kreme (heaven in a mouthful) to create the delectable Glamour Glaze doughnuts.

They were so shimmery! I can honestly say I have never seen food like this!

If you have never eaten a Krispy Kreme doughnut, I can't emphasise enough how much you are missing out!

As you can tell...the diet is not going too well....

Japan Fashion Week Cancelled

It is now a week since the devasting earthquake and tsunami hit the the small island nation of Japan. What happened on friday along with the events that have followed show the huge scale devestation that has been caused to the country and have proved that this is undoubtedly the worst disaster that Japan has ever faced.

With the death toll now expected to exceed 10,000 the situation in Japan for many of us is unbearable. In disasters such as this it is obviously, and in many cases correctly, the main events that are focussed upon by the media, in this case it has been the earthquake tsunami and nuclear disaster that have been the main focus. However as the events themselves are so huge the consequences of them have filtered down through down all aspects of the Japanese society, one example being the cancellation of Japan fashion week.

Obviously in the context of the current events the cancellation of fashion week isnt anyones main concern. However as a fashion and geography/wider world blog we felt we should should report and comment on this. Fashion week which was scheduled for next week was officially cancelled by organisers with many labels  postponing their shows indefinately.

The retail market in Japan along with the rest of the economy has been hugely hit by last fridays events. In Tokyo many stores are closing early and telling employees not to come in as a way of dealing with the rolling blackouts that are being implemented to help with power shortages and the distruptions to public transport.

BHLDN - A Wedding Brand that goes beyond "The Dress"

A few weeks ago I went to Philidelphia and the URBN headquaters. URBN is a huge company that not only owns Urban Outfitters but also Anthropologie (one of my favourite brands out there),Free people, Leifsdottir and Terrain. When I looked around Anthropologie (which i instantly fell in love with), we were told of the upcoming bridal range BHLDN, however unfortunately we werent able to have a sneak peak. The range was finally launched on valentines day, and it i think it is safe to say the dresses themselves are truly enchanting. Although this my be a little premature (my boyfriend would certainly think so) i have already picked out my favourite.

"The collection will feature own-brand designs, as well as established and up-and-coming guest designers – its point of edit being a twist on tradition. Gowns pay respect to the old, new, borrowed and blue, but each with a wink and a nod. Fleur Wood, Tracy Reese, and Catherine Deane contribute exclusive designs to the tailored and voluminous, soft and draped, embroidered and embellished assortment, complete with refinements like built-in boning and corsets."

The people at BHLDN were lovely enough to send us a press release and here are a few examples of what the range has to offer.

For what these amazing gowns have to offer we at Tailored Beginnings feel they are reasonably priced. Although at the moment the range is only available online they do offer a unique and personal service.
Hopefully a UK store wont be too far over the horizon. At least in time for us to walk down the isle! Joking...(sort of..)

Japan Earthquake/Tsunami

Today an earthquake measuring 8.9 on the richter scale hit the North Eastern coast of Japan. The earthquake which happened just off the coast, triggered a huge tsunami causing large scale devestation across the country. The tsunami is now thought to be sweeping across the Pacific basin with  severe warnings released in many countries worldwide. These videos provisde some of the most horrific images we have ever seen. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected.

Northumberland Roadtrip

We took a spontanious road trip to Northumberland at the weekend. Although the weather was horrendously cold it was beautiful! I would definately recomend it!
We came across this castle (we can't remember the name) just outside of Alnwick and we decided to do a bit of photo taking!
